Snowed in
I didn't know when I planned to feature several articles about winter (above) that I'd end up in the middle of a blizzard! It's been snowing for hours and it's still coming down, so there's no school today. So far on the agenda are sledding, "making something with my spatula" (that's a request from my preschooler), and probably some of our active indoor games too.
I'm glad we don't have to drive anywhere today, and that we have a sledding hill just two blocks from home. That's one thing about living in a wintry climate. Our city parks and rec department knows how to make the most of snow and ice. Most parks have a man-made sledding hill (just a grassy pile of dirt, really; in summer, they are good for rolling down!) and several have outdoor skating rinks with warming sheds.
Hope you're warm and cozy today--but make sure you fit in some active play too!

Be very careful sledding. Last year we did a lot of sledding down a very steep hill on these cool, big blow up tube sleds. My daughter was sitting on my lap and we went over a bump. She went up in the air and when she landed she broke a couple of my ribs. OUCH!
We haven’t had enough snow for sledding yet. I can’t wait!
