Thrifty Thursday: Fitness for free

Thursday May 28, 2009

I'll admit, it's easy to drop a lot of cash on exercise equipment, active toys, gym fees, sports league registrations, and more. Depending on your family's finances and priorities, you might be able to make room for these in your budget, or you might not.

But don't forget that there are many ways to get out, get moving, get silly, and have fun without spending any money at all. Here are five fun, free fitness activities. What are your family's favorites?

(1) Susan Adcox says:

I just spent a lovely Memorial Day with three of my grandkids. We packed a lunch and went to a park with a playground. We took the kids’ scooters because this park has lovely sidewalks that are perfect for scooters. There are usually ducks to feed, but we didn’t see them on this day, so we threw our bread in the water and watched the fish fight over it. The park also has a spray park, and the two boys ended up there. The kids had a ball and got some exercise, and I got a little, too!

My grands also love to go for walks. Sometimes we just walk in the neighborhood, and sometimes we go for “exploring walks” or nature walks and bring home all kinds of interesting items.
