In just over a month, the day will be here: My son will start kindergarten. It's easy to feel a little melancholy about this since he is my baby. But it's exciting, too (and freedom from child care bills is a nice perk, I won't lie about that!). He's already very familiar with the building and classroom, since his older sister attends the same school. One of his best preschool pals will be in his class. He knows his letters and numbers and how to write his name. He's had his backpack and lunchbox for months already. I'd say we're just about ready for that first day.
Still, there are some to-dos and shopping list items that don't always make the advice columns that pop up at this time of year. For example, have you checked your child's bike helmet lately, if she'll be riding to school? Does she have a sturdy water bottle? Is your pantry stocked with healthy snacks and lunchbox items? Do teachers or parents provide tissues and hand sanitizer for the classroom or does your child need to bring her own? Here's how to prepare for back to school health.
