Bob Harper at BlogHer 2011Last week, I went to the annual BlogHer conference, a gathering of women bloggers, in San Diego. Just like last year, I got to enjoy an outdoor yoga class and attend sessions on everything from self-acceptance to idea generation to marketing via social media.

Another highlight was a breakfast Q&A session with Bob Harper, best known as "the nice one" on the TV show The Biggest Loser. While I wasn't one of the lucky few that actually got to work out with Bob, I still got to ask him a question at the breakfast which followed his class. (Both were sponsored by Quaker Oats.)

I asked Bob about the best ways to find the workout that's best for you: Is it just trial and error? His response was that yes, trying lots of types of exercise is a good way to discover what you enjoy. He also strongly recommended working out with a friend, or in a group fitness class (he still both teaches and takes group classes). I know when I tried krav maga, it really helped to have a buddy with me during the first session. Or, he said, work out with your family. Then you're enjoying your workout, spending some time together, and helping your whole family stay active.
