Sadly, it's been several years since my children watched Sesame Street. I miss that sweet, funny show! So I'm charmed by the new "Sesame Street: Ready, Set, Grover!" game for Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS (compare prices), which debuts this month. It's designed to go along with the TV show's emphasis--they actually call it a curriculum--on "Healthy Habits for Life."
The game stars Grover, Elmo, and Abby Cadabby, and includes 20 minigames that teach lessons about the importance (and fun) of:
- Physical activity: On Wii, kids can jump and play like Grover does
- Good nutrition: Sort foods so monsters get the right vitamins and nutrients
- Hygiene: After you eat, brush those teeth
- Rest and relaxation: Between games, Grover reminds kids to take a break and a sip of water
The Wii version comes with a controller cover and the DS game includes an oversized stylus--so either way, little kids can play more easily. Parents can also use a second Wii remote to provide extra help, and the games automatically adjust to one of three levels based on kids' competence.
