This weekend my daughter and I head off for her first out-of-state competition with her skating team. I have checked and rechecked our bags about a hundred times to make sure we have her skates and guards, and the special practice dresses for the whole team--it's my job to bring those on every trip. These are not things we can easily pick up along the way if we forget them!
Our Guide to Grandparents, Susan Adcox, has a great breakdown on travel teams on her site, which I've been using as we prepare. I'm sure I'll come back from this trip with lots more questions and ideas. I'll post some updates to Twitter and Facebook along the way, and would love to hear about your experiences with sports travel for your kids.

My tip — skaters must be cautious of swimming pools! Kids love pools — they are one of the best parts of traveling if you don’t have a pool of your own. And if you don’t have a pool of your own your feet are a bit more sensitive then those of someone who swims all the time. The bottom of those pools can be much like an emery board and you can really do some damage! You can easily rip the skin off your big toes without even realizing it and then skating the next day is a nightmare.
Do i sound like this happened to me? Was my mother livid? Oh yes!
Good luck!!!
