It's time for yet another trip to a skating competition! (To add to the sense of deja vu, we keep going back to the same state.) As the season progresses, the pressure cranks up. I find myself issuing a lot of reminders about trying hard, being a good team player, and respecting the coach's decisions.
I've also found that books are a great way to share this message in a more subtle way--you know, for those times when kids really have no interest in Mom's opinion? I've rounded up some titles for teaching sportsmanship to younger kids (these are picture and early chapter books) as well as tweens and teens. If you have a sports-themed favorite that's not listed here, please let me know!
