By , About.com Guide

Definition:

Moderate physical activity is exercise that requires 3 to 6 METs of effort. During moderate physical activity, breathing and heart rate become more rapid and the body burns about 3.5 to 7 calories per minute (depending on weight and fitness level).

Examples of moderate physical activity are walking at about 3 miles per hour, biking on flat ground, or dancing. Calorie Count offers a list of activities and their calorie burn rate, calculated for a person weighing 150 lbs.
