Definition:
Obesity is a physical condition characterized, in adults, by having a body-mass index (BMI) of 30 or above. An adult who is 100 or more pounds overweight, or who has a BMI of 40 or above, is considered morbidly obese. Children between the ages of 2 and 18 are considered obese if their BMI is at or above the 95th percentile for their age and sex, or if their BMI is 30 or above.
Complications from untreated obesity can include diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, stroke, depression, osteoarthritis, and certain cancers.
