National Skating Month

By , About.com Guide

Event: National Skating Month

Date: Every January. Rinks host events throughout the month, usually on weekends.

Location: Ice rinks across the United States

Organizer: U.S. Figure Skating Association

What to do: Explore figure skating with special events, giveaways, and promotions at ice rinks nationwide. Try lessons, win prizes, watch skating demonstrations, and more. If you like what you see, sign up for your rink's Learn to Skate program for beginning skaters of all ages.

If there are no events scheduled at your local rink, you can still attend a public skating session to try figure skating as a family. Kids should wear helmets to protect their heads. Snow pants and waterproof gloves or mittens will keep them dry and also cushion falls. Finish with a round of hot chocolate for everyone.
