My favorite way to exercise is 

Combining strength training and aerobic exercise.

My typical weekly routine is 

4-6 days per week alternating chest and arms training with shoulder and back work each lifting session, followed by walking 4-6 miles on the treadmill increasing the incline from 5.0 to 15.0 every 5 minutes. On off days, active rest walking 4-6 miles outdoors.

How I got started 

This has been a lifelong fitness habit for me since high school in conjunction with high school and college sports followed by years of powerlifting competitions and running races of 3Ks to half marathons.

Why I love it 

Since I'm now retired and in my 60's I feel young compared to others my age that I see. I take no medications and hope that my health and life will continue to be a happy one. If I don't work out I get a little testy but I have learned that every once in awhile it's okay to take some time off and recover. I might add that I only walk now due to a hip replacement at age 60.

Advice 

  • Don't get down on yourself if you miss some workouts. However it's important to get back in a routine. ALSO do not try and compare yourself to anyone else compete with YOURSELF and don't be afraid to ask someone for help. Personal trainers are a good resource as well as the internet. Just make sure the information is well qualified.
