I Tried Not to Cry in Front of Her

I've struggled with weight my whole life and tried to deny the fact that my little girl's plumpness was unhealthy until the doctor suggested we see a nutritionist. I guess the sad/reassuring thing was that we weren't the only ones there. 6 other kids within 3 years of my daughter's age were in the office the morning we went to see the nutritionist. I'm trying to figure out how to make healthy eating and exercise a part of our lives -- it seems so easy but it's not!

Daughter Has High Cholesterol

This isn't exactly the same as being diagnosed as obese, but it does make you feel bad as a parent, even if you know you're trying to raise healthy kids. My daughter was diagnosed with high cholesterol at age 7. Her BMI is at the high end of normal, but still in the normal range, and she doesn't eat a lot of high cholesterol foods. So was shocked. I think there is a genetic component to this (I am the same way). The main high cholesterol food she like to eat is butter. But she was very open to cutting back and now will ask me if I put butter in something when I cooked it. I think kids are better at handling these things, if you explain it to them.
