Martial arts benefits
- Both my children and I started martial arts training two years ago. My daughter and I do an adult class three days a week and we are even closer now as a result because we have to encourage and motivate each other, we practice together, etc. etc. Besides the fact that my daughter lost 23 kgs (approx 50 pounds), she has gained so much self-conficence. My son is in the kids class and besides the fact that he hates the sweating, he loves it. We attend a traditional school which means that discipline and respect is very important. My son suffers from ADD and the training is helping a lot with his focus and concentration problems. His balance and co-ordination has also improved significantly. I would recommend martial arts training to any parent. It is an investment in your child's future!

Values
- My 7 year old daughter and I take a combined, family martial arts class. In addition to the added exercise, the increased confidence, and the fun, I love that the class is another place to reinforce values with my child. The tenets of martial arts are courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, and indomitable spirit. I have not had any problems with my daughter using martial arts outside of the classroom. The teachers always reiterate that martial arts are for self-defense only.

Visit schools first
- Before you enroll your child in a martial arts school try to have them take a sample class. Most reputable places will let you do this. If they pressure you too much for a long contract I say keep looking. My son has been in karate for about a year and I just love his teachers. They are really great about teaching fitness and values (respect, etc) but still keeping the class really fun for little ones (he is 6).
