If your child is a football fan, point him or her toward NFL Play 60, a site created by the National Football League to promote its youth health and fitness campaign. At the site and at in-person events at schools and games, NFL players encourage kids and teens to be active for at least 60 minutes a day. Your tween may not listen when you tell him to get off the couch and go play—but maybe he will if quarterback Drew Brees suggests it.
At the site, kids can issue fitness challenges to their favorite players, pledge to take on a challenge of their own, get a daily fitness tip, ask a trainer a fitness question, or find dozens of ideas for active play.
The NFL also backs Keep Gym in School, which promotes the importance of physical education and offers grants to schools that need financial support for PE.

hi im a boy scout/football player, who is interested in doing an eagle scout project on promoting exercise and nutrition in young kids.. and i thought that nfl play60 would definetly be an awesome part to promote this event that i want to do and also encourage and bring out many kids to this activity where they would learn of nutrition and exercise… i was wondering if you may have any contacts with the nfl play60 and if you could get me in touch with them so that i can perfom this project that i think will benefit the whole community of el paso…. thank you
In order to be active in our society today, it seems being “competitive” is a precursor to being active. Not every human being is naturally competitive. For some it makes them anxious and uncomfortable. The reason most kids are over weight is they feel physically. There is already a social hierarchy at school and leaving school to join the physical hierarchy on the playground is adds to the stress of being a kid- whether or not you are overweight.
An alternative I would like to bring to kids is music based “movement”. I’d like to encouraging both effective movement (exercise) or free style play (dancing). JLo, Shakira and Shaggy can make cardio and lunges stress free if choreographed in a fun way and presented in a non threatening environment. In the old days, no one ever made a point to “exercise” they would just dance. Now the word “dance” is stigmatized as feminine or the movements are so hard that no one but killed dancers can do it. It doesn’t have to be that way if the music industry got involved and good choreographers helped out (myself!). Beyonce was a great start. Let the music be the motivator and it will get parents to want to join in as well.
I’d love to help out in any way.My passion is fitness choreography and enjoy the challenge of taking the tread mill out of exercise. Though I’ve been working with adults for the last couple of years, I’m developing a program for kids as early as 7 years old and would love to share some ideas…www.mojofitness.biz
